Texas Boat Transport

Texas Boat Transporters and Haulers don't have it as easy as you would think transporting oversize boats in Texas. You would think that being the largest state in the union, the state would be wide open and transporting boats would be a cake walk. Wrong! It seems whenever a Boat Transporter applies for a oversize boat permit the driver is regulated to using secondary roads. Can you imagine transiting Texas on highway 10 clear across using two lane roads! Not fun. While transporting oversize boats in Texas as in all other states haulers are required to have in hand a current oversize permit and to operate under the guidelines outlined in them.

• In Texas a boat is considered oversize when the width exceeds 8.6 feet wide and if the boat is over 13.6 feet tall when loaded. When the boat is loaded means that after the vessel is on the transport trailer the overall height is determined at that point.
• General hours of operation are from sunrise to sunset. Curfews are maintained in major cities.
• Texas requires a pilot car if the boat exceeds 14 feet wide and 14 feet tall overall.
• When transporting boats in Texas it is a general rule if the boat is over 12 wide or not legal in height the route used will be secondary roads.
